Come and join us for the Over The Moon Promotions 2010 Spiral Nationals on the Australia Day weekend January 2010.

No need to wash your boat after sailing, shady grass rigging area, easy launching and great viewing for the spectators. What else do you need for a successful regatta! With the nationals coming to Canberra interest is huge in the Spirals here. We welcome Over The Moon Promotions as the major sponsor and look forward to a fantastic weekend of top sailing and enjoyment for all.

The Spiral fleet has been steadily building over the last few years with 30 spirals now registered with the Canberra Yacht Club. This number is expected to be in the mid 30’s in time for the Over The Moon Promotions Spiral Nationals.

Canberra has had many successful campaigners in Spirals, with 5 different people winning the Australian Title. Craig Davidson, Iain Davidson, Bruce Paine, Martin Cox and Hamish Nicols. Recent victories to Chris Eddes as Australian Junior Champion and Andy Garvey as Australian Ladies Champion shows the depth of the spiral fleet here in Canberra is continuing to be very strong.

The racing area for the CYC is on west lake of Lake Burley Griffin, however sometimes central basin is used as an alternate race course. A mixture of courses are used including triangle, windward leeward and trapezoid formats.

During summer the predominate breeze is a good North Westerly with an Easterly change being the norm late in the afternoon (some great sailing is had with the easterly change).

Many people are looking for boats for the Championships, so if you are not using your boat please contact Craig Davidson by mail:

instructor@canberrayachtclub.com.au so we can get more people out and competing.

For the spectators viewing the racing is superb. The racing is conducted in front of the club with large shady trees right next to the waters edge to sit under and you are only 20mtrs from the CYC club room and the Canberra Southern Cross Club upstairs.

For those who don’t like watching sailing there is a plethora of things to do. Visit the museums, go shopping or relax in a cafe.

The Canberra Yacht Club has a chanderlery on site for all your boating needs during the championship and all boats and trailers can be left onsite for the duration of the weekend.

There are many accommodation options all within close proximity to the club.
